Biography* | Robert John (Robbie) Lamping was born in 1880 and died in 1949. He was born in New York of unkown parents and placed in an orphanage. Susan Goddard Lamping fell in love with this baby when visiting her home in New York, adopted Robert and brought him back to Colorado. Perhaps after his mother's death he lived with brother James. Robert homesteaded three miles west of Webster in the canyon of Hall Valley. Uncle Bob in early manhood was engaged to Florence Appleman of Shawnee, CO, but she died just before their wedding date, therefore he never married. After selling his homestead he lived with nephew Joseph Anthony Lamping until death. He is buried at Webster, CO. Donald A. Lamping, Salmon, Idaho writes 28 jan 2006 to Robert F. Lamping: I have written notes passed down by the family that when Great Grandma Lamping (Susan Godard Lamping) went back to New York from Colorado to visit family in the hospital. Susan was told of a child that both parents had died and that Grandma Susan Lamping should bring the child back to Colorado And take good care of him. Grandma Susan named him Robert John Lamping after her own son Robert John Lamping born in 1847 and died 1849. Thus Robert John was adopted into the Joseph Anthony Lamping II Family and known as Robbie John Lamping for the rest of his life. |
