Biography* 
Kenneth Ray Hicks was raised on a farm in Creek Nation, IL where he attended the Four Mile Grammar School and Zeigler High School. Martha and Ken met in Denver, CO in 1946 and were married in Cody, WY. Ken served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Nov 16, 1945 to August 1947 when he was honorably discharged at Scottfield A.F.B. in Illinois. Ken's work has included the construction of various tunnels and dams. He worked on the construction of the H.D. Roberts Tunnel (the longest tunnel in the world [in 1972] located in Grant, CO) and the Feather River Dam (the highest earth filled dam in the world [in 1972] located in Oroville, CA). He has also worked at the: J&L Steel Mill in Hennepin, IL; Northern Petro Chemical in Morris, IL; Union 76 Refinery in Lemont, IL; Mobil Oil Refinery south of Joliet, IL; and at the Swift Meat Packing Company in St. Charles, IL. Ken has taken the family with him on his jobs. In 1972 the Hicks family was living in Romeoville, IL. where Ken is the Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 20 of the Rainbow Council, Thunderbird District.
