Biography* | | After he graduated from St. Raphael Grade School he went to work for the Elizabeth Street Foundry at 5838 South Racine in Chicago, IL. Art's father worked there and got him the job. His family had been in the foundry business since his great-grandfather, Steven Tanney, had established a foundry in Kemptville, Ontario many years before. Art worked here for 47 years from the age of 15 with the exception of a leave of absence that he took for a few months in 1942. He took this leave to try a new job and bought the Ogden Dairy, at 582 South Elizabeth Street in Chicago, from a man who was going into the service. He ran the dairy for a few months and then sold it, going back to the foundry. |
