Biography* | Mark C. Lamping was named president of the St. Louis Cardinals on September 1, 1994, replacing Stuart F. Meyer, who announced his retirement on August 19. Lamping, 37, came to the Cardinals with a strong sports background. In February 1994, he was appointed commissioner of the Continental Basketball League after serving as Anheuser-Busch's group director of sports marketing. In that position, he coordinated all sports marketing activities on behalf of the company's beer brands, including sponsorship agreements for the Olympics, the World Cup and all major professional sports, including Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association. Lamping joined Anheuser-Busch in 1981. He initially worked in the company's corporate planning group before serving as a district sales manager in southern Illinois and central Iowa. He also served as the senior brand manager for LA beer and director of sales operations. A St. Louis native and graduate of Vianney High School, Lamping holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Rockhurst College in Kansas City and a master's degree in business from St. Louis University. He lives in St. Louis County with his wife, Cheryl, and their children, Brian, Lauren and Timmy. |
